Key Competencies

At Riverina Primary School, we embrace the New Zealand Curriculum by fostering the development of Key Competencies and essential skills that equip our students for success in their learning, personal growth, and participation in society.

 

The Five Key Competencies

 

Thinking:

Our students are not just encouraged to think critically, creatively, and reflectively. They are given opportunities to apply these skills in their daily lives. At Riverina, we create situations for learners to explore new ideas, solve problems, and make decisions, helping them become confident, lifelong learners.

Using Language, Symbols, and Texts:

Effective communication is central to learning. We support our students in becoming proficient in literacy and numeracy and interpreting various forms of media, technology, and digital tools to engage with the world around them.

Managing Self:

Independence and self-motivation are integral to our school environment. At Riverina, students learn to set goals, manage their time, and take responsibility for their learning, fostering a sense of self-discipline and personal achievement.

Relating to Others:

We place great emphasis on developing empathy, teamwork, and respect. Riverina students learn to listen, negotiate, and appreciate diverse perspectives through collaborative learning and active engagement in group activities.

Participating and Contributing:

Riverina Primary is not just a school; it's a community. We encourage our students to engage in their school and wider community actively. We play a significant role in nurturing a sense of belonging and responsibility, helping students make meaningful contributions both inside and outside the classroom.
